Welcome to the Barton Cricket Club website. Formed in approx. 1860, Barton is an ambitious cricket club with active senior and junior sections and strong links with the local community. We are an ECB Focus club and as such work actively with both the Staffordshire and Derbyshire Cricket Boards. Here are some additional facts and figures for you:
Seniors
Barton runs three teams that play in the Derbyshire County Cricket League and have two grounds at our base at the Holland Sports Club in Barton. We welcome cricketers of varying standards to participate both as players and as social members of the Club. We strive to play competitive cricket and have some fun at the same time.
Juniors
With 150 registered children, Barton runs 10 juniors teams with Under 17s, Under 15s, Under 13s (x2), Under 11s (x2) age groups as well as a 4 Kwik cricket teams! We are the first club in East Staffordshire to have attained ECB Clubmark status (an accreditation for providing a safe environment for juniors to play cricket). All our coaches are CRB cleared, have attended 1st aid courses and have level 1 or 2 coaching badges. We even have one level 4 coach on our staff! In 2008 we have 22 juniors playing county or district level, including one who is in the Derbyshire Academy for 2008. We are active participants in the South Derbyshire and East Staff Cricket Development groups.
Community
We are an active part of the Cricket Foundation’s Chance to Shine scheme, delivering 300 hours of free coaching annually to nine local schools. In 2008 we also raised £4,000 for the Thomas Russell Junior School in Barton, to support their “raise the roof” campaign for their swimming pool.
